How long until my abs start showing?

I’m 17, about 6ft tall and weigh about 184lbs. I’m quite muscular since I work out a lot, and I dont have that much body fat but I have a bit of a tummy I’d like to get rid of. I do a lot of ab workouts so my abs are strong, but there is some fat covering them.
I do cardio (swimming) three times each week, and lift weights four times each week. I’ve completely cut out any bad foods or drinks, no fast food, soda, alcohol, chocolate etc. and I’m eating smaller portions. I try my best to stay away from fat, and I only eat carbs at lunch and breakfast (with protein and fruit/vegetables throughout the day). Luckily I’m mesomorphic and already in good shape, but I really want to lose that bit of stomach fat in time for beach season. I’m sticking to a good ab workout too, with plenty of variety, and I drink around 3-5 litres of water each day

Any thoughts/ideas?

Sit ups won’t remove your tummy. Do a lot of cardio until the extra fat is gone, then start doing sit ups. Sit ups build muscle, that muscle is forming behind your fat, until you remove the fat with cardio you won’t see the muscle.

OK man listen up I don’t have abs. you can barley see a four pack on my belly ( I like to eat ) anyway. ab excercises don’t do ANYTHING for your abs. so cut that out. well it strengthens your core but thats about it.

Do more cardio, jogging about a half hour a day should be good for you since you already work out and don’t want to start burning into the muscle you’ve built up. Good job on everything else you’ve done though buddy! That’s really impressive, just up your cardio and you’ll be all set! Hope this helps.

Some people have a huge difficulty getting them genetically. Try to do more varied abs concentrating on the obliques and do weighted and gravity assisted ab workouts to try to build mass. You may have to really cut your fat % to 3-4% to see them– which isn’t easy for most people– if you just naturally store your fat around your gut.

Even so, all the ab work won’t even affect the fat you have present, the secret to that is cardio cardio cardio.

Good luck– it can be done, and if you really want it, go for it. Be warned that it may not be that healthy to keep your fat content that low.

You should test your body fat percentage. I have heard it needs to be closer to 10% before ab muscles become visible. It sounds like you are doing all the right things and it just takes time (maybe 3 months or more). Also, don’t just do crunches, you also want to do core exercises like in yoga and don’t forget to work out your back too. You also need focus time during your core workouts on your obliques which are your side abs. Only workout your abs every other day at the most.

OK so all you want to do is keep up what your doing, all you need to do is do crunches for about 6 min. none stop. Believe me me on this one i used to be a really chubby kid and then i started doing sit ups and allot of jogging and i saw a difference in my body the second week. If you decide to do this you will feel a burn at first in the abdominal but that means its working do it for 5 min. to start of then if you see that its getting easy add more sit ups and more time to your routine and you will se a difference.
These are the Abb workouts that helped me get my Abbs

    ab bicycles
    ab scissors
    laying leg thrusts
    reverse crunches
    hanging leg/ knee raise
