Getting ripped and fit, will swimming help?
Ok I’m 14, and want to get fit and ripped. (I am not fat or anything, I’m actually rather healthy at the moment, but I want to get very healthy and fit, and ripped body). I have been doing crunches, sit-ups, leg lifts, push ups, and that sort of thing. I do boxing 3 times a week also. I’ve heard that swimming gets you a really toned body and makes you very fit- so I want to start. I have a pool, but I really am not a swimmer at all- and I mean I HATE swimming. The beach is fine, but actually swimming I just don’t like it. I prefer 100m and 200m sprints (I’m one of the best in my grade at 100m and 200m sprints). Last time I tried to do laps I felt very sick when I got out haha. Is it because I havn’t swam properly in a long time?

well, yes swimming is a great cardiovascular and endurance exercise. If you are new to swimming, you should start out small and work your way up. A good way to start would be by doing 50’s, or two laps, at a time, and go from there.
You could time yourself, and try to stay in a time frame (like say you were going to do four laps, you could try to do them in 2 1/2 minutes).
It also helps if you know how to do more than one stroke.

absolutley. swimming works every single muscle in your body.
if you want a ripped body, do not start out doing things hard. maybe start out with..
400 warm up, (long, slow, and easy.)
150 kick on your back (it will work on your legs)
5x 50’s fast (each one get faster and faster if you can)
5x 100’s fast. (each one get faster and faster if you can)
150 kick on your back (semi fast – faster then the first 150 kick)
400 cool down. (long, slow, and easy.
then when you start really getting into swimming, do the same set, but instead of doing 5x 50’s, and 5x 100’s, make it ten of each. swimming is truely an amazing sport, and you will for sure add alot of muscle, as long as you stick to it. if you get bored with the set i just showed you, you can find hundreds of other sets online…or you could ask someone at your local YMCA or something. idk. and once you start getting really good, each time you go to the pool, try to get done with your workout sooner. that involves taking a less amount of rest each time, and going faster in the water.

Swimmers tend not to be that ripped, since the more ripped you are, the less buoyant you are, and that makes you sink.
If you want to ease into the habit, try using a swim snorkel. It’s great to acclimatise yourself to the strokes without having to worry about survival on every 4th or 5th stroke. Then ease off it later if you want to work on building up your lungs or if you want to work on competition swimming.
If you want to avoid getting bored in the pool, buy an underwater MP3 player. They’re about $50 on eBay. Put high tempo music in there if you really want to get a good cardio workout and burn off some kilos.
