Any long term pain relief ideas from transverse process fractures?
I fractured my L1 (5mm), L4 and L5 left hand side transverse processes 2 and a half years ago in a snowboarding accident. I am 22 yrs old and moderate fitness level. Now 2 years on I am still in constant pain with my back.I have restless sleeps due to my always needing to change the way I’m sleeping to support my spine and hips. I wake up every morning with a extremely tight muscles on my right side, to which I cant turn until they have relaxed. I cant go for a decent walk along the beach or drive for 1 hour without suffering later on. I had a deep tissue massage the other week, it helped for about 2 days. Does anyone have any ideas for some long term pain relief?
You will need to talk to your GP about your options. The things I would be thinking is: a low dose of diazepam will help to stop the muscles from going into spasm. You don’t say if you are male or female but muscle strength around the injured areas will keep things more stable. You should see a professional to set a weight lifting routine to target the right areas without doing damage. If you saw an orth surgeon for the incident, he will probably have someone to refer to. It *might* even be worthwhile to have a testosterone supplement to aid muscle strength.

I suffered for 30 years with back pains that nobody was getting rid of for me. After I did muscle releasing for myself I was finally able to get rid of the pains, for that is where the majority of the pain comes from, the muscles. For you that is why the massage felt good, it worked the top half of the muscle but the bottom half remained untouched and in time it clouded over with pain because of that. When you release your muscles it releases the whole thing so the pain is gone all the way, not just half. Here is how to release your back muscles and the ones for your lumbar, both of which seem to be part of your pain:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
Lower Back, Lumbar:
While sitting place your hands behind your body just above the buttocks and press in on the muscles next to the spine and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your self forward as far as you can. Then release the pressure but hold your body there for another 30 seconds. Move a few inches down and do it again and keep repeating until you reach the end of your tailbone.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
