Possibly Failed Arizona Department Of Corrections Background Check?

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Hi. For the past 4 or 5 months i was going through the hiring process to be a correctional officer for Arizona DOC. I passed the written test, fit pro test, drug test, psychological test, medical/physical test but im not sure if i passed the background check. The Background Investigations Unit called me last week asking about my previous jobs, criminal history, etc. I was honest to them about trying weed twice when i was 19 (Im 23 now) but have been clean ever since and i also had a juvenile record that was expunged by the the state of California. The guy who called me asked me about each offense that i had which most of them weren’t filed…in other words i beat most of the cases except one for assault when i was 15 which i was sentence to probation until i was 18 but ended up getting off when i was 17 for good behavior and good grades in school. anyways they also asked me do i know or have i ever known any gang members. i said yes i do know gang members. growing up los angeles anybody/everybody is going to know somebody in a gang unless you live in beverly hills or malibu or somewhere. This is the main reason why im trying to relocate to another state. Tired of the violence and hearing about friends of mine getting shot. Anyways i was honest about everything. The background investigator told me if i get a call back from them then that means they thought i was lying about something so the next step would be taking a polygraph test. After that he said but if i get a call back from my recruiter then that means im ready to start the academy. A week later i got a letter in the mail saying that i was disqualified for one year for reasons unknown. i was confused because they said worst case scenario is that i would have to take a polygraph test to prove that i was telling the truth. I kept calling my recruiter for 2 days straight and nobody ever picked up the phone or returned back any of my calls. Can somebody please tell me why they think i was disqualified? I lost a lot of money going back and forth from long beach to arizona 4 or 5 times, calling off work, paying for rental cars, gas, and working very hard preparing myself for the fitness test. i just need an answer since they dont want to return my phone calls. I know this is a long explanation lol but please take the time to read it and respond. Thanks.

Actually that was a good letter. i know it is disappointing but

you got a big break.

They feel there hasn’t been enough time from using drugs and being on probation to know if you are going to stay on the straight and narrow.
They want to see.

If they didn’t want you that would have been their chance to shut you down completely.
They like you but want one more year.

Do a year or even 2 of College and re apply.

Write out what you said , so you say the same thing next time.

I need to loose weight in a difficult situation.?

Monday, December 6th, 2010

I just weighed myself I am 240 lbs (biggest I have been, ever) and it scared the hell out of me.

I have a free membership to 24hour fitness for the next 2 weeks but no money to keep it. I am living in a hotel right now so I am very limited. And there are no free community gyms around, altho if need be we do have a community pool I am not sure if it closes for winter. I also live next to the beach.

Can anyone suggest a workout that will take full advantage of my 2 week gym membership (willing, and planned to go everyday) and then good ideas on what to do when i no longer have access to one. Please be detailed in your answers, also I am working on my diet although that is limited as well since my living conditions do not include a kitchen. I have cut out soda though and am working on sugar all together. to start.

I guess the high stress over the last few week kinda caused me to loose control (I am an eater when i stress)

I am 5′8 1/2, 25, don’t *look* 240… used to work out so have a little muscle on me. And extremely determined so be brutal.
not looking to loose it *fast* just loose it, and keep it off. But my b-day is in three weeks I would love to see a difference by then ;DDDDD

Hi,
Would really suggest you go for low impact but high energy exercise.
What works for me at home is a bicycle equipment and lots of good DVDS. WHen I watch a good show and I’m cycling, I never really feel how long I’ve actually worked out and i keeps my mind away from the fact that I’m tired/ aching/etc.

For meals, eat lean meat with lots of vege. I notice when I do that, I don’t feel hungry that fast. Just eating vege alone won’t help coz I’ll be feeling hungry by the next couple of hours.

Do you like the beginning of my novel? EXCERPT!!?

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Prologue:
When Bella Beckham was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Britney Spears hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton and she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit.
The world watched in fascination as that little girl from a crazy Italian New York family turned into the exhibitionist, multi-talented singer-songwriter with a flair for theatrics and entertainment: Bella Beckham.

The Diary of Bella Beckham

My life as a pop princess began at the Burger King.
I could tell you that at the time, I was your average sixteen-year-old girl with slacker grades, dysfunctional family, bad hair days, unattractive pimples, and a love for singing out loud to every pop song on the radio. But that was the Wonder Bella who appeared doomed to live out her junior year as a social oddity at her new high school in Boston.
The other Wonder Bella, the one who slaved away at the Burger King every afternoon, she sang aloud to every song on the radio in order to drown out customers’ voices so her mind could focus on her real ambition: escape. Sing-aloud Wonder dreamed of escape from Boston, escape from high school, escape to Somewhere, Anywhere (okay, preferably New York or L.A., though London or Paris would probably do, as would any dark steamy Latin American beach metropolis like in the telenovelas on the Spanish language channel). She also longed for escape from parents whose marriage was on nuclear meltdown, escape from the sorrow that had overwhelmed our household since my parent’s divorce. In whatever glamorous city happened to be Somewhere, Anywhere, the other Wonder Bella would go and reinvent herself, become a sophisticated emancipated teen with a sensuous lips and ridiculous confidence. She could be like some Presidential Fitness teen ambassador; she’d have a kick-ass designer wardrobe and a smile that could light the world on fire. That chick would know how to make new friends like that and she would have guys lining up to date her, instead of the regular ole Wonder Bella, who you could tell guys thought was kinda not bad-looking but why’s she always by herself staring out into space, and anyway isn’t she the girl who dreams of being on TV, what’s her deal, how’d she get stranded here?
The regular ole Wonder Bella had two years of high school left to go, two more years trapped in sleepy Boston, Massachusetts. Escape for now would have to come from singing aloud at her job at the Burger King, passing the time in her own reverie.

The Los Angeles Times
Bombshells. Sex kittens. Pin-up girls. In Hollywood, such creatures have always been in plentiful supply. But just about once in a generation, a bona fide sex symbol will come along to stand out from the pack: some beautiful sex-bomb goddess whose mere photograph is enough to flutter the collective pulse and whose appearance on a red carpet causes both flashbulbs and eyes to pop. These women are synonymous with the S-word because they make men think impure thoughts rather than associate them with any particular movie role, product or publicist-constructed persona.
Every era gets the sex symbol it deserves — at least, so goes pop cultural thinking on the matter. What then to make of Bella Beckham? To be sure, she is the newest "it" girl to ascend into the vaunted pantheon of sex-bomb goddesses.

This is really good. I also like Cheyenne’s story preview…

Any long term pain relief ideas from transverse process fractures?

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

I fractured my L1 (5mm), L4 and L5 left hand side transverse processes 2 and a half years ago in a snowboarding accident. I am 22 yrs old and moderate fitness level. Now 2 years on I am still in constant pain with my back.I have restless sleeps due to my always needing to change the way I’m sleeping to support my spine and hips. I wake up every morning with a extremely tight muscles on my right side, to which I cant turn until they have relaxed. I cant go for a decent walk along the beach or drive for 1 hour without suffering later on. I had a deep tissue massage the other week, it helped for about 2 days. Does anyone have any ideas for some long term pain relief?

You will need to talk to your GP about your options. The things I would be thinking is: a low dose of diazepam will help to stop the muscles from going into spasm. You don’t say if you are male or female but muscle strength around the injured areas will keep things more stable. You should see a professional to set a weight lifting routine to target the right areas without doing damage. If you saw an orth surgeon for the incident, he will probably have someone to refer to. It *might* even be worthwhile to have a testosterone supplement to aid muscle strength.

This is how you lose weight [Not Spam] TL;DR?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

In order to educate women and some men who believe that doing cardio and abs will help them shed pounds on their midsection. I also think it will help out trainers who have a hard time getting clients to understand the benefits of lifting moderately heavy weights, which is the best thing for them to do to lose weight.

Everyone knows that cardio is the best thing for you when looking to burn extra calories. Or is it? What most people don’t know is cardio can be the worst thing for cutting fat when it isn’t paired with weight training. If you ask the girl (or even the guy) on the ab machine what she’s trying to do, nine times out of ten she will reply with “lose my stomach fat.” Ten times out of ten, she won’t loss stomach fat. The number one reason for this is that you can’t spot reduce an area. When you lose body fat, the fat will be reduced throughout the body, not just from the area you’re working. If we could lose weight in just one area, don’t you think we’d look a little funny? People would walk around with rock hard abs, saggy glutes, and flabby arms. All beach guys would have fat legs because they only do chest, arms, and abs.

Stop listening to your uneducated group fitness class groupies.

You’re working too hard and burning too many calories. Your body is eating your muscle, which is slowing your metabolism down, and you aren’t strength training.

I don’t care about my muscle. What does that have to do with me losing weight.

It has everything to do with you losing weight. Your muscle is going to be what regulates your metabolism. Your metabolism is going to be the amount of calories you burn at rest throughout the day. Now this is where muscle comes in. Your muscle determines your metabolism. A pound of muscle can burn anywhere up to 50 calories a day depending on its health. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn throughout the day. This is known as your basal metabolic rate, an estimated amount of calories you burn throughout the day. If you don’t take in enough calories throughout the day, your body will have to get the nutrients it needs from somewhere. If you had to choose between eating fat or meat, what would you eat? Meat. Your body would too.

Meal frequency. You eat three meals a day, correct? That is ok if you’re eating the right amount of calories and your metabolism hasn’t been damaged like yours has. The trick to keeping your body burning calories or keeping your metabolism moving is to constantly put food in to be used for fuel for the body. An easy way to understand this is to think of your body as an old furnace that needs wood for fuel. The wood represents the food. To turn on the furnace, you must put wood in it. The wood will burn for a few hours, but in order to keep the furnace on, you must add more wood. The same thing goes for the body. If there isn’t any food to fuel the body, the metabolism slows down. If you are to eat every two and a half to three hours—four being the most—you will keep your metabolism constantly working. Five to six small meals should do the trick.”

Carbs are good for you, especially after a workout. Any exercise over about 45 minutes can be long enough to completely destroy your carb or glycogen storage. Glycogen is what carbs are stored as in the body. It is stored in muscles and organs. After an intense cardio session, Have you ever noticed that your muscle are flat or you feel thinner? That isn’t just from sweating out fluids. It is also from using your energy storage. This is where the whole low carb diet thing came about.

After one day of cutting out carbs, most people will lose one to two pounds, mostly from water. Not only do you lose weight, but you also feel thinner. That’s because you’re depleting your muscles of glycogen. Carbs will keep your muscles hydrated, making you feel like your muscles are bloated, hence the name carbohydrate. About two-thirds of your carb intake is used for the brain. That is why most people get light-headed until of course they get used to operating on less carbs. You will be able to function but not at your max.

If you burn off more calories than you take in, you will lose weight.

Don’t get me wrong—too many carbs are bad, but so is too much of anything. If you were able to have 2000 calories and ate 2500 calories of all protein, you wouldn’t lose weight. The same thing goes if you ate 1800 calories just from cake. You wouldn’t lose weight. Each macronutrient, protein, carb, or fat has its own job. Protein is great because it is the most versatile one.

Adding a carb in at breakfast and lunch and then two small, healthy snacks in between lunch and dinner.

What kind of snacks?A shake, fruit or almonds.

Some fats are good for you. The body needs fat for certain things, and you shouldn’t deprive your body of it. It is the secondary source of energy and also helps with joint health. There are other things your body uses fat for. But no matter how good it is for yo
u. The body needs fat for certain things, and you shouldn’t deprive your body of it. It is the secondary source of energy and also helps with joint health. There are other things your body uses fat for. But no matter how good it is for you, fat is fat in the end. Too much of any one thing isn’t any good, especially fat. It contains nine calories per gram as opposed to protein and carbs, which both have four calories per gram. That’s why fat should be kept to two servings per day in my opinion. So, yes, almonds.

As a general rule of thumb, to help portion meals, I recommend having a small amount of protein with each meal with a serving of carbs or a protein and a serving of fat. It will balance out to about the same amount of calories. If you do a fruit or almonds by itself, that is ok to start. It is a step in the right direction.

You’re Welcome.

(You can thank me with bee that make milk.)
Helter Skelter you’re so cool. Thanks for enlightening me.

Awesome stuff mate. Keep up the good work. A lot of people tend to stay away from weight training when trying to lose weight but I always balanced between my diet, weight training, and cardio to lose weight. It works wonders because the muscles help me up my metabolic rate!

my weight?????????? (10 POINTS HERE!)?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

okay, so im 16 years old and i weight 113 so, i want to lose 7 pounds. (dont say that i dont need to lose weight because i want to lose 7 pounds) i exercise EVERYDAY. i jogging in the beach but i walking more than jogging like 45 minutes and 24 hour fitness-like 30 minutes. i eat UNDER 1000 calories everyday. so, how long i will lose 7 pounds??

Trust me on this one…You do NOT want to eat less then 1200 calories a day. Your body will store all the fat it can get and you will screw your metabolism up (Ive been there). Just eat what you want somewhere between 1200 and 2000 calories a day (depending on your height) heres a calculator that will tell you how many cals to eat

http://www.tlbc.ca/blog/index.php/bmr-calculator/

Put in the weight you want to be and your heaigh and it will tell you the cals you need to maintain that weight (eat those cals no more no less and you will become that size)

Exersize no more then and hour a day (if you are doing the whole week) and no less then 30 mins 3 times a week. Do Cardio AND weights (CAUTION! weights will make you heavier BUT its not fat its muscle which weighs MORE then fat, and the more muscle you have the better your body is at burning calories while you are doing nothing at all!)

PLEASE dont over do it, maintain a healthy weight (if you are over 4′8" you are already perfect so calm your insecurities down a notch , everyone is to worried about themselves to find anything wrong with you)

Crash diets will make you skinny for like a week and then blow you up like a balloon, making you heavier then you where to begin with =/

help my weight???????? very easy…(10 POINTS HERE!!!)?

why does Sac State get no love among the CSU’s?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I’m a Sac City/CRC student and I will be transferring to Sac State in the Fall. I like it there a lot, and it’s a beautiful campus which a good amount of extracurricular activities, but it seems to have that commuter school stereotype where most students come to class and leave without caring about sports, school spirit, extracurriculars, etc. As much as I KNOW I’m gonna enjoy myself, in the back of my mind I wish that most of my fellow CA students had a desire to go there like they do to the other CSUs (Cal Poly SLO, SDSU, SJSU, Sonoma, Chico, Long Beach, etc.)

I will be going to Sac State for the graphic design program, which is one of the most prestigious in Nor Cal. I turned down UC Davis for this because of the cost, and because they are cutting funds/classes for their design program, and I have heard that some of the design students over there attempt to transfer over to Sac State’s graphic design program. Are there also any other programs that Sac State is well known for?

I’m just wondering exactly WHY Sac State is really underrated and doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. It’s WAY better than other CSUs (I won’t mention which ones though). And with the new fitness center in the Fall (http://www.thewell.csus.edu/), it should be able to attract more prospective students and athletes and promote better school spirit and less apathy.

I wanna know people’s thoughts…if you are rude and have nothing nice or intelligent to say, don’t say it. Thanks.

I guess it is a matter of perspective. How much do you know about CSU LA, Dominguez Hills, Stanislaus, Fullerton, Northridge or Cal Poly Pomona? I don’t think they are high on the glamor scale for Cal state colleges either. Those are mostly commuter schools too. Can you get just as good an education there as you would at SLO or SJSU? You bet. Are there fewer distractions and temptations as there are at places such as Chico State or SDSU? Absolutely.

You get what you can from your particular college experience by making the most of it. Yes, there is more of a "college atmosphere" at places like UC Berkley and UCLA, but how often will you be able to talk to your teacher one on one? A big college professor is often much more interested in doing research, writing the next textbook or getting the next NSF grant than (s)he is in ensuring that you comprehend the course material.

Do your best, get the most out of whatever is offered and remember that your education is top priority.

Good luck
