(You can skip the first part and read the last two paragraphs if it’s too long)
I used to be addicted to sweets when I was a child, so much that my two front upper milk teeth were rotten form eating too much sugar, a few years later I had a painful abscess in my gum and had to have teeth removed, my parents did stop giving me sweets eventually encouraged me to be healthy by taking me to swimming lessons and dancing lessons and to eat sensible meals like turkey salad (yum!) even though I would have tantrums, scream the house down, hide a box of ready made icing under my pillow and eat it at night.
At 11 I would ride bikes with my friends for miles to get to the nearest beach and go for a swim (and a tan). That is when I became more conscious of my body and I started to take responsibility of my diet when I was 13 years of age and started to despise unhealthy snacks and fizzy drinks (Im lucky i didn’t end up with diabetes and obese).
When I was 14 I moved away and stopped going to dance classes etc ect, all me and my friends would do for exercise was walk around all day, I felt withdrawn from exercising and would ask my friends if they wanted to go for a jog or to a swimming classes, they didn’t want to, but I figured that as long as I got some sort of daily excersise and fresh air even if it was just walking, that would be fine.
Im quite proud that things turned around for me and I managed to be healthy and fit, but now I have gone back to my unhealthy ways by eating junk and not exercising, I also smoke like a chimney.
I would start again but now eating healthy and exercising feels like a chore, I can’t do it without thinking Im doing it for a reason or that there is a goal at the end of it, my friends are still reluctant to go to the gym with me (they talk about going, getting fit and loosing weight but never get round it) I went to the gym once with my friend and loved it but she must have felt jealous and because she makes excuses about going with me now.
I have done some fitness DVD’s but they get boring after a while and after a few minuets I think what is the point? I don’t want to go out jogging or for a walk because I will feel too self conscious, I have thought about going to the gym on my own but I’m scared of feeling self conscious and getting in a nervous clumsiness state where I fall over or just give up after a few minuets because there is nobody there to compete with and encouraged by.
What do you think I should do?
Stop being lazy. Staying fit IS a chore. But if you think that the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and thus being healthy, outweigh the benefits of potentially having medical problems in the future than you will do it. If you don’t do it, than you really are harming yourself. Stop smoking.

I’m starting a new diet and exercise regimen this week. I did this two years ago and lost 60 pounds but have gained 20 back since then. I figure my ideal weight is about 60 lbs less than I weigh now.
When I lost the 60 lbs I was exercising so hardcore it was unbelievable. I’m a former football player so I know how to get a good workout in. Thing is I don’t think I have the energy in me to do that anymore nor do I think it was a good idea. My body was really breaking down due to how intense the workouts were after a long period of doing them and the stress of them is what led to me quitting my goal. What I’m looking for now is to focus more on diet and do exercises I find enjoyable and keep switching it up. I don’t care about muscle all I want to do is lose fat roughly 60 lbs of it my goal is to do it before next summer (gotta look good on the beach).
For example I live in virginia beach and I’ve found I really enjoy biking up and down the boardwalk. It’s low impact I’m able to do it for about an hour and I find it relaxing. Thing is if I do this everyday I start to wear from doing too much biking. I want to avoid this so I want to do some different type of workout that I like doing everyday. For example I like racquetball, so I want to incorporate that into my workout once a week. I just need to find 5 other things I find fun and I want that to be my exercise routine. Anybody have any suggestions?
haha if I were able to have sex whenever I wanted for exercise I prob wouldn’t have any reason to lose 60 lbs of fat… Although I’ll try that one as a pickup line some time haha.
here are some fun things
1)well since you play/played football just have a fun game with the guys every week or so running there will be good for you as well as very fun.
2)well incorporate your racquetball with biking. Do racquetball one day and biking the next. They should give some parts a rest while others strength.
3)Find running partners or lifting partners.i know you said you dont care about muscle but toning is very easy and will take you way less time.Plus your partners push you harder and make you feel more determined.
4)this is gunna sound weird but,i dont know how old you are,if you have a girlfriend(along that line)sex is a great way to burn a ton of calories very fast and fun.
5)Just do things differently instead of driving, walk.drink diet soda or just don’t drink soda at all.Do these little things and they will make a big difference

First off I am a 17 year old male. I am 6 foot on the dot, senior in high school and enjoy long walks on the beach.
Well this was not always the case. When I was younger I was very short for my age. I would say I was around 6 inches shorter then any of my classmates. I was also a little chubby. I can not remember exactly how much I weighed but I estimate that it was around 160. I never really took much concern in it. Things changed my second year of high school. I shot up to 6 foot very fast. So fast in fact that I was given a pigeon chest (I think it is neat). Well anyway all the weight seemed to fill in to this new taller body except the middle. I had a bit of a protruding belly. I changed nothing and continued with little exercise and ate whatever and that landed me at what I believe was 170 pounds.
Now I have never cared for my father too much. I like him as a person but he has always come off as a bit of a slob. I realized that I did not want this for myself. I decided to thin up and get in shape. Renew myself and fit this new body better. I started doing about 200 jumping jacks a day and then some ab workouts and pushups during commercials that came on for an hour. This lead to around a half hour of total excersize about 5 times a week.
I also started eating less. I have not cut anything out of my diet but I just eat about 15% less of it. If I have frys left after a meal I toss them if I am not really hungry for them. Things like that. I have considered it just stopping when I stop being hungry.
That was about 9 months ago and now I am at 130 pounds. i know that is a little underweight so I need to level things out but I like where I am. My mother has certainly noticed the change. she sees the fact that my pants are now a few sizes too big. She is worried that I am anorexic. She does not know about my change in diet or exersize. I keep to myself for the most part with everything.
So I suppose the question is am I anorexic? I have always considered it just eating better and working out but you can never really see yourself without bias eyes. So what do you think? I think I am happy where I am although I would like more muscle. Am I sick though? I will let you be the judge.
Thanks.
Hi there. I’m a 16 year old girl. In my 15th year I became overly obsessed with my eating and excersising. I went from 124 pounds down to 95. From what it sounds like you are not annorexic. Just don’t be afriad to eat alot. When u do eat a lot lift alot and aim for about 30 mins of cardio. This should give ya that ripped look:)
if u have any more concerns feel free to email me

I’m 5′7 and i’m extremely toned from tennis tae kwon do and soccer but my love handles really bother me~ so say i do cardio workout for 20-30 minutes 4 or 5 times a week
how long would it be till i see results?
i hope soon we have a school beach trip in 22 days!:D
You probably wont see the results you desire in only 22 days, but you should see some improvement. I’m not sure that Cardio alone is the best exercise to target Love Handles. give these 3 things a shot.
1. Hula Hoop
Adults will benefit greatly from hula hooping, especially women. if you want a shapely, curvy, feminine look, with a toned and lean waist, then try the hula hoop.
Just buy a big, weighted hula hoop for around $10 and get to it. do it for 10 minutes a day. Doesn’t matter how you get to 10 minutes, just do 10 minutes by the end of the day.
2. Hindu Squats (The 5 Minute Miracle Exercise)
This is fast becoming a favorite you can get in a complete cardio workout with just this exercise in less than 5 minutes.
What you do is squat up and down as fast as you can. These are body weight squats, so no weights are involved. Do 100 repetitions in less than 5 minutes.
3. Cold water thermogenesis
What I mean by this is immediately after your done with your shower, rinse very cold water all over your body for 15 seconds. I’d tell you to just take a really cold shower, but I know you probably can’t handle it.
But by rinsing your body with cold water in as little as 15 seconds, you’re creating thermogenesis… burning fat for energy. Usually this fat comes right off your love handles and belly. Cold water forces your body to internally increase it’s core temperature to combat the water… this gets the body to burn off fat….Good luck and best wishes.

I am leaving for a long trip (where I will be at the beach a lot) in 3 weeks. For the past 3 months, I have been vigilant about my diet and exercise routine and don’t know why I haven’t lost much weight! (I have lost maybe 3 pounds).
Here’s my exercise routine:
Cardio 6-7 days a week, ranging from 1-2 hours (My workouts are intense). Cardio is changed up, including running, eliptical, stairmaster, kickboxing, aerobics, and swimming.
Weights:
I do about 3, hour long sculpting (all-over body) workouts a week, and do toning exercises on the days in between. (just one or two reps).
Diet:
I eat only whole grains, vegetables, fruits, beans, and some fish. I don’t have over 130 carbs a day and I don’t go over 30 grams of fat. I drink lots of water and drink green tea daily. I eat breakfast with fruit, carbs and fiber. I also eat mini meals every 3-4 hours.
I have been working out for a long time, and I don’t know why my body keeps on weight. (I’ve had this problem in the past.) Anyways, I’ve been doing it the "right way" for 3 months and see little results. I am not overweight, but have extra noticeable fat on my underarms, on my thighs (inside and outside) and around the love handle area. My body also doesn’t show much definition which is very frustrating since I have very strong muscles.
I’m desperate to lose this extra weight before my trip and have a feeling I need to do something drastic. I don’t want to starve myself, I still want to work out and eat something… I’m open to pretty much anything at this point. any ideas?
My trip is also 5 months long so I want to be able to somewhat maintain my weightloss.
We sound a lot alike! The only way I can really jump start my weight loss, even though I eat healthy and exercise, is if I cut my carbs way down. Check out the atkins diet at www.atkins.com. If you cut your carbs way down you can lose quite a bit in 3 weeks. I usually lose 15 pounds in two weeks when I start this diet. The only bad thing is after the strict 2 to 3 week period, you have to add carbs back slowly, or you will gain all the weigh back you lost. It is a great way to lose weight before your trip, though. I promise, you will lose at least 10 pounds in two weeks. It’s amazing!
