Both dojos are somewhat near my house and both seem pretty nice inside and the people look cool but I’m not sure what style I should take first. Also, I’m doing this for self-defense and for the workout. Not sure if anyone wants to see their websites but just in case it may help…
http://www.kravmagalb.com/ (Long Beach)
http://www.newbreedacademy.com/ (Santa Fe Springs)
Thanks for any answers!
In my opinion I would go to each and watch a few classes and see if you can try a free weeks classes and then choose the school you think will best suit your needs.
Make sure the teachers credentials are good and they are not selling black belts.
Research will get you positive results and allow you to choose the better school for you.

He’s a guy you’ve been dating for 1 year.
You met because of mutual friends.
You’re both 20.
The bad…
He has really bad family problems.
He lives at home but constantly complains about it.
He does not have a job or look for work.
His family/ friends act weird around you and give you funny looks.
He does not have a car- only a motorcycle that doesn’t always start (you live in an area with very long winters)
He smokes cigarettes everyday and gets high about every other day, he also gets drunk about 2 days a week.
He plays a lot of video games and spends all day laying on the couch watching TV.
He hangs out with friends who are the same way.
He didn’t get you a birthday present after he said he would AND you bought him what he said he wanted for his birthday recently.
He rarely says he likes or cares about you.
He never takes you on dates, pays to rent a movie, wants to go to the beach or to an amusement park.
He gives you passive, boring, peck-like kisses.
He doesn’t tell you what he does all day long.
He doesn’t tell you about how his friend who calls late at night and texts him a lot is actually his ex girlfriend.
He promises to spend time with you while your parents are out of town and then blows you off to do nothing important with friends and says he was high and forgot.
He ignores you around your mutual friends.
He wont take responsibility for anything he does wrong.
He acts different around you than around his friends.
He can’t hold up his side of a conversation.
He’ll call you out and be rude anytime you’re wrong or say something silly.
He joins the marines and then refuses to participate in meetings and training physical fitness practices.
The good side…
He talks about the future
He has great physical chemistry with you
He wants you to write to him while he’s in the Marines
He’s (not to be shallow) really attractive
He’s handy when it comes to computers
He wants to fix the problems in his life but he’s not ambitious enough
He never talks about his friends- you barely see his friends
He’s not IN the marines yet. He has 6 months before he leaves for boot camp.
oops yea I meant for the never seeing his friends to go on the negative list sorry!
I think you already know the answer to this. I mean look at the size of your con’s list, and now compare it to the size of your pro’s list. I wouldn’t even consider some of your pro’s a pro. Especially that he is good with computers and that he has ambitions, yet he isn’t ambitious enough to accomplish them.
This guy is 20 years old and doesn’t have a job, nor a desire to find one, as you said. I mean I know the economy is tough right now, but whoa. That’s a little ridiculous. And how is it even possible for him to get away with signing with the Marines and then not participating?
I’m sorry, but this guy is a loser. He needs to go.

Does anyone else feel like this? There are so many things you could do and not enough hours in the day. I have 30 minutes in the mornings and 30 in the evenings to devote to exercise. I have been walking at about 2 miles an hour for 30 minutes every morning for about 3 weeks. I have been walking in some capacity every day for the last 3 months. I feel like I need to do more because I am not seeing results like before. I am also morbidly obese and it can be hard to do floor work because my belly is in the way. I so want to be successful this time. I lost 20 pounds in 3 months and today I peaked at the scales and have a 4 pound gain this week that I am none too happy about. The thing is those 20 pounds…I know they were hurting my health but I am so big anyway, I can’t really tell I lost…still wear the same clothes. Maybe I would feel better going to the gym where people could help me…I don’t know but I would love tips in the meantime. I am on a semi-low carb diet similar to south beach right now (just started, have been counting calories for the past 3 months and never let myself go over 1700, 1500 most days.)
I get so frustrated because most websites about fitness are geared to semi-normal people who are actually almost fit. Sometimes I am really in a hurry to lose weight, other times I think I need to take it really slow because I am not going to be able to afford surgery for loose skin.
My BMI is currently 44 and I am 28 years old, to give you an idea of where I am at. My main goal right now is I need to lose about 2 1/2 inches off my middle to fit into some motivational clothes I bought. I also want to lose 30 more pounds to no longer be in the morbidly obese category (because my BMI would be under 40.)
I think those are reasonable goals. Sorry this isn’t more of a specific question but I could use any and all ideas, tips, support, suggestions, encouragement etc. I do know one fault in my diet I have discovered is it is too high in salt and my ankles are huge…water retention I think. I am hoping that is all the 4 pound gain is.
I am really serious about this so please, only serious answers. No advertising about this pill or that magic acai berry or stuff. I am doing this the old fashioned way and I want to work as hard as possible as long as it is safe.
Hi, I lost 85 pounds five years ago so I can relate to what you’re going through. I think you’ll find this website helpful and not at all geared towards the "already healthy" viewers. There are tons of weight loss tips, food and exercise logs (which I would recommend to you for motivational purposes), healthy recipes, motivational ideas, exercise ideas, etc.

Congrats on your weight loss so far. I so remember what you’re saying about no one noticing the weight loss. I was so heavy that I had to lose 30 pounds before anyone that didn’t know I was dieting noticed and said, "Are you losing weight?" After that first 30 though, people commented all the time and I was buying new clothes constantly as I went down through the sizes. A typical clothing size is 10 pounds, so once I got in "normal" clothes, I was buying basics (black pants, jeans, khaki pants) to get me through to the next size. To be honest, when people got used to seeing me look good, I missed all the attention. Try not to get discouraged. Losing a lot of weight is an endurance test, that’s all…you can do this! Good luck!
